Earth in Focus: Singapore Nature Film Festival 2024

Earth in Focus: Singapore Nature Film Festival is a dynamic celebration of the natural world, blending the art of film, photography, and creative expression to inspire environmental awareness. The festival seeks to cultivate a deeper connection to nature, highlighting the beauty of wildlife and ecosystems that sustain life on Earth. As part of the global movement to address environmental challenges, the festival seeks to not only showcase the wonders of our planet but also to encourage action toward its protection.

Free Family-Friendly Happenings

The festival will feature captivating film screenings, masterclasses, and engaging workshops for children. Families can also explore festival booths hosted by NGOs, enjoy a stunning nature photography exhibition, and experience an inspiring ecological art installation.

Backyard Wilderness (by Andrew Young & Susan Todd)

    We follow Katie, a young girl, who gradually discovers the intricate secrets that nature has hidden so close to her front door and we experience the joy she finds in her interactions with this new world. The film reminds us that Wi-Fi is not the only connection that matters and that sometimes in ordinary places, you can uncover extraordinary things that could transform you forever – you just need to step outside.

    MURK! (by Coastal Natives)

    Join us for a special screening of ‘MURK! (Exploring Singapore from Below)’, a short film produced by the Coastal Natives team! Inspired by Singapore’s rich marine biodiversity, follow a group of passionate underwater photographers as they document the intricate marine life, advocating for more to love and protect the ocean.

    Following the screening, they will host an underwater photography masterclass led by a panel of expert photographers featured in the film, and others who contributed to it. Engage in a dynamic discussion as they share insights, tips and stories from their adventures in capturing the delicate and vibrant life hidden beneath the surface.

    The Old Bear (by Candice Odgers & Julie Busse)

    The Old Bear is a poetic, surprising and contemplatively paced footage of the bears in the Alaskan landscape through the observations of naturalist and filmmaker, Casey Anderson. Through the artful melding of words and images, the old bears become guides into a life gracefully lived.

    Amazon Adventure (by Mike Slee)

    Amazon Adventure tells the true story of explorer Henry Bates’ fascinating 11 year journey through the visually stunning and biodiverse Amazon rainforest as a young man who risks his life for science in the 1850’s. Be wowed by the examples of camouflage and mimicry inspired by Bates’ curiosity and determination to explore the wilds of nature.

    From one end of the globe to the other, water is becoming increasingly scarce. This story follows 12 year old Houlaye from a village in Tatis, Niger who has to walk several kilometers each day to fetch water. However, 200 metres below the surface there is a water source, which is a promise of a new life for those in the village who unknowingly, had been walking on water.

    Find out about the different Shark species and the conservation efforts from Kathy Xu, the founder of The Dorsal Effect through various craft activities, such as coloring and paper shark folding!

    Adding a twist to classic bingo, join Great Plains on a “Safari Bingo!” Kids use bingo cards featuring African wildlife names while watching a video. They mark off what they see, turning each round into an educational adventure. It’s a fun, engaging way to learn about nature through interactive play.

    Dive into an ocean of discovery with our “What Do You Sea? Cardboard Camera Craft” workshop! Children will learn about and explore the incredible sea creatures that inhabit our oceans.     Imagine strolling down the beach and being greeted by a chorus of comical, oversized fish heads - not on your dinner plate, but as rubbish bins! Welcome to FISH, HEAD, HURRY, a social sculpture project by artist Ernest Goh, where the only thing fishy is our dire plastic pollution problem. This piscine protectors aren't just there to gobble up your litter with a smile; they're here to remind us that if we don't protect our oceans, our beloved fish head curry might just come with an extra crunch of plastic. So, let's hurry up and save our seas (and seafood), because no one ordered plastic on the menu.
