If you are seeking an exciting Halloween event in Singapore that is suitable for young kids, teens and even older folks, you won't want to miss the annual Trick or Treats celebrations at Woodgrove Estate that happens annually on 31 Oct.
Completely community driven and celebrated since 2007, the estate will be packed with families and people of all ages partaking in trick-or-treating. It is interesting that you don't actually find lots of information about the event online, but it just happens each year.
Let us share some information and tips from our visits over the years!
Why does it happen at Woodgrove Estate?
The celebrations began in 2007 when 30 residents of the neighbourhood decided to introduce Singapore to the American tradition of Halloween. Given it's proximity to the Singapore American School, the estate has a sizeable number of families from the United States and the tradition took off with the residents before expanding into the huge public event that we experience today.
What Can You Expect?
Given its scale, you may mistake this as managed by a larger organisation, but it is actually completely community driven where residents put in their own resources to decorate their houses, purchases treats and even hire security to ensure safety and secure the necessary permits to block off streets, transforming the neighbourhood into a Trick or Treater’s paradise.
You can expect lots of people coming dressed up for the occasion and to soak in the atmosphere.
You find many elaborately decorated houses, some much more than others. You can expect music, smoke and even moving characters to get everyone into the mood. A crowd usually gathers around the decorated houses as they try to snap photos of it.
And of course, there are lots of sweets and treats to be collected! So bring along your pumpkin baskets and the kids will have fun going around collecting their sweets.
Things to take Note
Definitely come dressed up as you will get to take lots of photos. It also elevates the experience - but given our weather, we understand if you choose not to.
We spotted an ice cream man in 2024
We highly recommend that you bring lots of ice cold water for yourselves and kids as it can get quite packed, warm and some times frustrating trying to move around the crowd. Another tip, bring a portable fan for each person!
Don't lose your shoe in the crowd
As the crowd grows, do take care of younger ones and do not lose them. It might be useful to set a landmark to meet in case anyone goes missing.
Also, do note that not all houses are involved in the trick or treating. The ones involved will usually be decorated and have someone at their gates giving our treats. So do take note that it is still a neighbourhood and we should try not to add burden to others who are not taking part.
