Venue: Baghdad Street@ Kampong Gelam
Date: 7 Nov 2024
Time: 6pm & 9pm
We grow up watching, remembering, following and inadvertently imbibing the hate for famous female villains in the folklores of the Nusantara. But who are these villains? They say one is not born evil, one is created, nurtured, taught, changed. But what sparked it all? This theatre-styled performance aims to shed light and give respite to the female villains that we grew up hating. Follow Wan Mahora (Mahsuri), Mak Kundor (Bawang Putih Bawang Merah), Permaisuri (Bidasari), Raja Ampuan (Dayang Senandong) and Puteri Indera Kaca (Si Tanggang) as they unravel the greys in their soul for everyone to see, and hopefully understand. Wedok is a theatre performance where the audience gets to decide what happens in the story. Wedok aims to unpack and tries to give a different perspective on why villains do what they do. Is every bad deed justified or are we simply too quick to villainise an easy target?
