The National Museum of Singapore will be filled with many family-friendly activities that not only bring fun but also bring Singaporeans together this National Day!

National Museum of Singapore invites you and your family to spend the National Day at the museum to hang out and play while reminiscing the joy of playing with toys as a child.

What to Expect During at the National Museum's National Day Celebration

From indoor to outdoor, various activities will be hosted to celebrate the National Day at the National Museum of Singapore on 9 August. For young ones, there will be inflatable playgrounds, drop-in craft activities, intergenerational programs, and the popular scavenger hunt at the museum.

For those who are young at heart, you can check out the museum's latest exhibition, Play:Date, to reminisce about the joy of playing with toys, just as you did when you were a child. And to embrace the national day spirit, a live outdoor screening of the National Day Parade will be held on the museum's front lawn where there will also be special light-up installations that will take bring you back to your childhood days.

Activities You Can Join

  • The Good Old Games; A Light-Up Installation

Running from 1 to 9 August 2024 at 7:30 – 12 AM daily, this year’s light-up installation will showcase life-sized old-school games that are frequently played during the good old days such as chapteh, five stones, gasing, and country flag erasers!

The installation will feature lights and some illumination so visitors are encouraged to be careful at all times and heed all the warning signs onsite.

  • National Day Scavenger Hunt

Visitors can discover more about Singapore by participating in the fun Scavenger Hunt as they search for answers around the museum. Complete the hunt with all correct answers and stand a chance to redeem a token from the museum, while stocks last!

This activity is suitable for children aged 13 and above, children aged 12 and below must be accompanied by parents.

The National Day Scavenger Hunt will take place at Glass Atrium, Level 2 from 10 AM – 5:30 PM (closed from 12 PM – 1 PM; final registration by 5 PM). It is a free activity, but pre-registration is recommended and can be done here.

  • Outdoor Sustainable Play

Together with Chapter Zero, families can take part in this popular programme to encourage imaginative play and sensory experience for the young ones. Simply head over to the Front Lawn, Level 1 from 9.30 am - 11.30 am. 

Suitable for children ages 4 & up. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and are encouraged to dress comfortably for outdoor playing.

  • The Singapura Life by Sengkang Green Primary School
Guided by friendly students from Sengkang Green Primary School, you will get to showcase your personality with activities about life in Singapore  The two main activities are ‘My Ethnic Costume’ where you can dress a paper doll with a choice of costume that represent Singapore’s major ethnicities and ‘Postcard Giveaway’ where you get to choose to design a postcard from 4 different designs featuring Singapore’s hawker food and games from your childhood.


This activity is free and will be held at Glass Atrium, Level 2 from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM (priority slots for person with disabilities) and 10:30 AM – 4 PM for public.
  • Design A Keychain
From 10 AM – 5:30 PM (final entry by 4:45 PM), Outside Explore Room, Level 3, use the unique technique of pouring paint to create your own keychain! This craft is suitable for participants age 12 and above. Note that only ONE keychain allowed per visitor.

  • My Dearest Friend; A Letter-Writing Activity

It is time to unleash your creativity and reconnect through the art of letter writing to your loved one, friend, or even to yourself. You will seal the letter with wax seals and look forward to them being received approximately 6 months later. 


Participation is while stocks last and for local postage only. The activity will be held at Get Curious Studio, Level 3 from 10 AM – 5:30 PM and is suitable for participants aged 12 and above.

  • National Day Colouring Competition

This colouring competition wil feature Singapore's local icons. Participants are encouraged to bring your own colouring materials (dry materials only, no paint allowed) or purchase a colouring pack for $5, while stocks last. Open to 50 children, aged 6 to 13 years.


The colouring competition starts from 10 AM – 1 PM (registration at 9:30 AM) at Gallery Theatre, Basement Level. It is a free activity with refundable deposit of $10 per participating child.

Pe-event registration via https://nms-ndoh-colouring-competition.peatix.com is highly encouraged to secure your spot due to the limited slots.

  • National Day Special: Experience Reunion Intergenerational Tour
Grandparents and grandchildren are invited to join an inter-generational conversational tour of galleries and discover Reunion, the museum’s social space for seniors. Engage with the exhibition at the activity area and look forward to creating your own digital exhibition at the Memory Lane immersive interactive experience, light refreshments will be provided. 


The tour is conversational in nature and allows participants to share their experiences and stories while exploring familiar items from the museum’s collection from 9:30 AM – 11 AM at Reunion, Level 1.

Grandparent-grandchild ticket is priced at $25.60 and $12.80 for individual ticket. You can purchase the ticket here.
  • Writings on the Wall

From 10 AM – 7 PM at Glass Atrium, Level 2, you can share your thoughts on what is unique about Singapore and what the Singapore spirit means to you. You might see your responses projected on the museum’s LED wall!

  • Live Telecast of National Day Parade

Starting from 5:30 PM – 8 PM (seated by 5:15 PM) at Front Lawn, Level 1, families are invited to have a picnic under the stars and enjoy a live telecast of the National Day Parade under the museum’s iconic Banyan tree with your family and friends. 

Visitors are encouraged to bring your own mats and snacks.
