In conjunction with Children’s Day in October, Esplanade presents Octoburst! – a children's festival that encourages artful play and fun for all. Families can catch Singapore's first and only preschool marching band as well as an orchestra for young musicians performing at the festival!
There will be so much fun and excitement awaiting on 7 Oct 2022 at the Esplanade!
1. Party With The Kinderland Preschool Marching Band
Venue: Esplanade Forecourt Garden
Time: 10 am - 10.30 am
Octoburst! opens with a performance from the Kinderland Preschool Marching Band, the first and only preschool marching band in Singapore! The children will be performing songs from Oliver and Doraemon at the Forecourt Garden! After which PIP, together with Rui Shan will be leading a mass dance for all - because it is time to have a PARTY!
Formed in 2010, the Kinderland’s Preschool Marching Band has earned recognition and praises for its various benefits, and has performed numerous times for dignitaries and at events like Singapore World Water Day 2017, PassionArts Festival 2017, ECDA Conferences & Pearson Outstanding Learner Awards 2018, and Octoburst! 2019 - so be sure to catch them at Octoburst!.
2. Enjoy Classical Tunes Performed By The Kids' Philharmonic Orchestra
Venue: Esplanade Concourse
Time: 10.30 am - 11 am
The Kids’ Philharmonic Orchestra is an orchestra for young musicians between ages 4 and 17, and you will have the opportunity to catch their youngest musicians playing alongside talented young soloists at Octoburst!. The orchestra will be performing famous classical works including Johann Strauss’ Radetzky March and Jacques Offenbach’s Galop Infernal (Can Can Music).
The performance will also include quizzes where you and your little ones can learn interesting titbits about the world of classical music!
3. Meet & Greet with PIP!
Venue: Esplanade Concourse
Time: 11 am, 2 pm and 4 pm (30mins per session)
Esplanade's biggest star and mascot for families, PIP is back for photo opportunities with you! Come on down to the Esplanade Concourse to meet and greet with the lovable PIP and have your family's photo taken for keepsake too!
4. Learn The Latest K-Pop Dance Moves
Venue: Esplanade Concourse
Time: 1.30 pm - 2 pm
Calling all parents and kids! Join Distinct Creative Arts as they guide you through simple and trendy dance steps while moving and grooving to the latest K-pop hits! You and your little ones will be having a fun time dancing while sweating it out. No experience is required, so head on down to enjoy this family bonding workshop!
5. Engage In A Special Edition Of Carnival Of The Animals
Venue: Esplanade Concourse
Time: 3.30 pm - 4 pm
Carnival of the Animals, a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements, is a familiar favourite for all ages. Join musicians duodentity and actor-narrator Marc Valentine Chia as they perform a special Octoburst! edition that will regale children with excerpts from work.
Children will get to enjoy the music, savour the poetry, swim with the fishes, and roar like a lion at this fun performance for families!
6. Catch A PLAYtime! Performance & Have Your Say
Venue: Esplanade Annexe Studio
Time: 11.30 am, 3 pm and 5.30 pm (1hr 15min per session)
Admission: Pre-registration required and will open from 27 Sep 2022 at 9 am.
*Recommended for 3 - 6 years old with accompanying parent/guardian.
(Work-in-progress) PLAYtime! 2023: Just As I Am is part of the PLAYtime! theatre series produced by Esplanade for children aged from 3 to 6 years old. This long-running series is highly popular with families, giving young children opportunities to enjoy and to engage with various stage performances.
As part of Octoburst!, The Kueh Tutus will present a work-in-progress showcase for feedback from families and peers as a key part of their work’s developmental milestone. The work-in-progress presentation will be followed by a dialogue session with the creative team. With the responses in mind, this will guide the artists to continue their creative process leading to its full staging in 2023.
7. Discover A Performance About Differences
Venue: PIP's PLAYbox
Dates: 7 - 9 Oct 2022
Time: 11.15 am, 2.15 pm and 4.45 pm (30min per session)
A performance about differences - come and meet Square and Oval at Can We Be Friends?. Meeting for the first time, Square and Oval look different but can they be friends? Will they like each other? Will they discover anything in common?
What about you? Will you be friends with them? What if you met others who look different from you? This performance will introduce these conversations through a fun and interactive play.
8. Go On A Self-Guided Hunt For PIP
Venue: Various Locations
Time: 10 am - 4 pm
You met PIP at the meet and greet sessions, but did you know that PIP loves to play hide and seek? Embark on Where's PIP? A self-guided hunt for PIP and solve clues around the Esplanade to find out where PIP is hiding!
To start, simply pick up a copy of the activity sheet from the Esplanade Concourse and collect stamps from PIP's hiding spots around Esplanade! Complete your activity sheet and redeem a prize* at the Esplanade Concourse from 10 am to 4 pm.

9. Create Your Own Paper Pom-Poms!
Venue: Esplanade Concourse
Time: 10.30 am - 4.30 pm
Get crafty with your little ones in a self-guided craft activity! Have fun creating your very own paper pom-poms using your child's (or your) favourite colours. Showcase your personality by adding recycled materials to customise your pom-poms too!
10. Start A Song & Dance Party At Home With the PLAYtime Playlist - Sing Along!
Venue: Esplanade Offstage and PIP's Club Facebook
Time: Premieres on 7 Oct 2022, Fri, 9am
The PLAYtime! Playlist consist of familiar tunes that the PLAYtime! audiences have sung and danced to over the years! You can now sing and dance to them in the comfort of your own home too - sing the tunes at the top of your lungs and dish out your wackiest dance moves with the little ones in the name of family fun!
