Show your support for dyslexia in October by being part of the World Dyslexia Awareness Month (WDAM) 2021! With exciting activities for families to show their support.

Venue: Online / Various
Date: 1 - 31 Oct 2021
Fees: Various

October is World Dyslexia Awareness Month, and the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) has planned a series of activities for families to show to the dyslexia community.

Complete a 30km walk/run/cycle, learn from experts in an online forum or be part of a charity golf tournament. Be rewarded with a fulfilling experience as you embrace diversity and celebrate the diverse talents of people with dyslexia and other specific learning differences.

You can also make a donation to raise funds for children with dyslexia from lower-income households who require full or partial bursaries to access interventional support – and make a difference to their learning journey.

We call on you to also support EMBRACE DYSLEXIA , a movement launched by the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) in 2014 to debunk common misconceptions about dyslexia, encouraging people with dyslexia to embrace their learning differences and to call organisations to take greater action in supporting dyslexia communities around the world.

This year, the movement also calls for greater inclusivity for other forms of specific learning differences such as dyscalculia, dyspraxia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD).

Organised by DAS, WDAM 2021 is a key highlight of its 30th anniversary celebrations, ‘DAS30 – Embracing Dyslexia for 30 years’, this year. We share some highlights of WDAM 2021 that families can take part in to show their support!

MOVE FOR DYSLEXIA 2021

Registration / Event Dates: 1 Oct - 30 Nov 2021
Fees: $30

Move for Dyslexia encourages participants to complete at least 30KM of walking, running or cycling between 01 October 2021 and 30 November 2021. Those opting to cycle will be clocking in their longest distance cycled within the activity period. Members of the public can register for the event online.

Upon collation and verification of submission, a virtual finisher badge will be issued via email (within 14 days) to all participants who have successfully completed at least 30KM!

The top three winners in the respective men’s and women’s category in the walking/running and cycling events will be entitled to win attractive shopping vouchers. In addition, everyone is encouraged to post on their social media channels about this event. Ten of the most creative posts will also stand to win prizes too!

ONLINE INTERNATIONAL FORUM

Date: 12 October 2021, 4.00-5.30pm
Fees: Free

The International Forum will explore the topic of supporting third-culture kids with learning differences. Third-culture kids spend part of their school years in international schools in Southeast Asia as they move between countries during their formative years. While they are able to gain broader and more varied experiences and developed multilingualism, their learning challenges can often go undetected.

The forum will be moderated by Anaberta Oehlers-Jaen (Head of DAS International), with speakers from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia. It is free and open to all members of the public.

DAS CHARITY GOLF 2021

Date: 22 October 2021, Tee-Off Schedule by Timesheet

The Charity Golf will take place at the Laguna National Golf Resorts Club (Masters Course). Golf Flights are priced at $5,000 each. All participants have an opportunity to win prizes, in aid of a good cause! Corporate Flights at $8,000 are available as well, along with other corporate sponsorship opportunities.
