What is happening?
Trades and Occupations is the theme of April’s Family Fun at the National Museum of Singapore that happens every last Saturday of the month.
With the changing era and evolution of technology, a lot has changed over the years, trades and occupations being one with the most notable changes.
Did you know that before today’s electric streetlights that come on at a pre-set time, we needed lamplighters to climb the post every night to light the gas lamps? How about your little ones?
Listen to Mdm Si-Hoe S.S., author of ‘The House on Palmer Road’ weave riveting tales about such jobs that have ceased to exist today and live through a different time in Singapore in this interactive storytelling session.
We use weaved baskets today to add a vintage touch to our décor and while they look simple, they require an admire amount of skill to produce. Test your skills by weaving your own basket!
Go on a tour of the National Museum and uncover fascinating facts about this building that is more than a century old.
