Babilou Family Singapore and their preschoolers embarked on a major sustainability education initiative and successfully raised $50,045 for NParks' Garden City Fund!
Babilou Family Singapore, a leading preschool operator and education organisation that manages the popular KiddiWinkie Schoolhouse, Little Footprints Preschool and other education centres in Singapore, has raised $50,045 for NParks' Garden City Funds as part of its first major sustainability education initiative, Plan(t) the Future.
Plan(t) the Future
The Plan(t) the Future initiative was a commemoration of Earth Day in April 2022 as a pledge of Babilou Family's commitment towards sustainability. The amount raised from the initiative will be contributed to NParks' Plant-A-Tree programme that supports the conservation efforts in cultivating a love for the environment and promote a sense of ownership in our natural heritage.
Educating Preschoolers About Sustainability
Across all 52 centres of Babilou Family Singapore, children were engaged with activities such as storytelling and discussion sessions on sustainability before progressing to the creation of crafts by the children which were put up for sale on Earth Day (22 Apr 2022).
Families were invited to the sale and were engaged with a selection of activities to keep the discussion and learning of environmental conservation going at home with their children.
Employee's Efforts
To wrap up the fundraising initiative, Babilou Family Singapore's headquarters organised a flea market in May for employees to contribute their pre-loved items for sale and auction towards the good cause.
Plant-A-Tree At Sengkang West Way
Proceeds from the sale of craft items at the centres, along with those made during the flea market amounted to $50,045. This was contributed to the NParks' Plant-A-Tree programme, where 148 trees were planted by the children and their families along Sengkang West Way at a tree planting event on 14 July 2022.
Not only is it a great initiative, the tree planting event provided families with the opportunity to engage in a fun and meaningful activity together - a great way for the kids (and parents) to remember the sustainability lessons learned and to have a memory of the initiative to bring home too!
