About Pastry Haven By Helen
Next to take residency at Baker X from 20 August to 15 September 2024 is Pastry Haven by Helen (@pastryhaven.byhelen). After a decade-long hiatus from her accounting career to focus on her son's early education, Helen’s journey took an unexpected turn when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her plans to reignite her career. Seizing the opportunity amidst adversity, Helen embraced the Singapore government's SkillsFuture initiatives to pursue her lifelong passion for baking and founded Pastry Haven by Helen from her home kitchen. She is committed to delivering artisanal bakes of exceptional taste and visual appeal, using only the freshest and premium quality ingredients. At the same time, Helen continuously expands the repertoire to include Keto-friendly options, catering to patrons with specific dietary requirements.
About Baker X
Launched in December 2021 by Far East Organization, Baker X aims to support home-based bakers by providing them with an opportunity to have first-hand experience running a brick-and-mortar storefront and interacting with customers face-to-face with a fully fitted baking studio and a 20-seater café. Patrons can dine in or takeaway the baked goods at the café on Level 4 of Orchard Central (opposite Genki Sushi). The café is operated in tandem with social enterprise, Tea Ideas. There will be a line-up of bakers throughout the year, and each baker will be in residence for between 2 to 6 weeks.
Financiers
Their signature financiers, available in various flavours, are a highlight not to be missed during her residency. The Matcha Financier with Azuki & Ceremonial Grade Matcha Ganache ($5.50) is made with Japanese flour, premium Uji Kyoto matcha and rich French butter. Each bite is an irresistible combination of soft matcha sponge, Hokkaido azuki bean paste, and smooth matcha ganache.
Madeleines
Adorably shaped like a seashell, the Valrhona Chocolate with Strawberry Compote Madeleine ($5.50) is filled with house-made fresh strawberry compote. It is then glazed with a dark chocolate made from Valrhona Guanaja 70% and Equatoriale Noire 55% and finished with freeze-dried raspberry bits.
Bite-Sized Cookies
Bite-sized cookies are offered in a variety of six flavours, available in 100g packs or tubs. Enjoy a delicious mix of citrus, spice and sweet apricot in every bite of the best-selling TWG Earl Grey with Apricot Sablé Cookies ($10 for 100g). The Ceremonial Grade Matcha with Valrhona Dulcey Cookies ($10 for 100g) highlights the earthy undertones of premium Marukyu Koyamaen ceremonial grade matcha from Uji, Kyoto. This prized matcha, celebrated for its vibrant green hue and umami depth, is elevated by the smooth caramel notes of Valrhona Dulcey chocolate. Baked with French butter, freeze-dried strawberries and cranberries, the eggless Berries Cookies ($9 for 100g) are a delight to savour.
Savoury Bakes
New to the menu are the Cheese & Chives Scone ($5) — Pastry Haven by Helen’s exclusive savoury treat. Fragrant spring onions, chives, and garlic perfectly complement the buttery richness of the cheddar in this soft, fluffy bake.

The Pesto Extra Virgin Olive Oil Focaccia ($3.80 per piece) also makes its debut at Baker X. Deliciously crisp on the outside and airy on the inside, the bake is ribboned with flavourful pesto and nutty olive oil. Sweet, juicy cherry tomatoes studded throughout add dimension to the savoury profile, while finishing touches of fresh rosemary and flaky Maldon Sea salt impart added aroma and textural intrigue.
