Sharing of articles from fellow Mummies (and Daddies), to help you Bring Your Kid Out, and create your BYKidO Moments!
A write-up of a playground visit, a video of a trip overseas or even something educational to help you Bring Your Kid Out! BYKidO Moments are moments for your Parenting Journey!
This week's BYKidO Moment is contributed by Mummy XY who emailed us about her visit out-of-town to Desaru!
DAY 1 – Getting to Desaru
We are off on a road trip to Desaru and to help us navigate our way (and not get lost), my husband downloaded the Waze App.
Due to school holiday, we were stuck in the jam at Tuas checkpoint for 2 hours.
Some activities that we kept the kiddos occupied with:
Lunch was Dim Sum at Restaurant Changman Dim Sum 常满点心楼.
We drove for another 1 hr 20 mins from the Dim Sum restaurant to Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast. Luckily it was a peaceful ride as the kids fell asleep in the car.
The first thing to notice is the high ceiling and nicely decorated Hotel Lobby – definitely a great start to get into the holiday mood!
Here's the Spa menu for Mummies (and Daddies) who are interested in some pampering.
This is the view of Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark from the hotel lobby (you can get tickets from KKday too)
We found out from the hotel staff that we can get tickets at better rates if we book (minimum one day) in advance from this website.
We booked the Deluxe King Bed which comes with breakfast and added a baby cot for our 2.5 year old Julian. The room was spacious, well-furnished and had a nice layout. AND the snacks and drinks at the bar were free.
Here’s the rest of the information:
Pssst: kids club is free for a period of time for age 4 years old and above. I didn’t get a chance to check it out, but it’s definitely a plus point to choose the hotel again.
Here is a view of the hotel’s swimming pool and next to it, there is the Mexican restaurant, The Elephant and the Butterfly.
We headed out of the hotel at about 5 pm to check out Desaru beach, a mere 3 mins drive from the hotel. The beach is clean with fine, white sand – perfect for photo taking!
Dinner venue (Jade Garden Seafood Corner) is 30 mins drive from the hotel. The restaurant is clean and spacious – ideal for dining with big groups. Definitely popular with Singaporeans as we spotted many Singapore cars there as well. My personal favourite is the huge Lala.
Malini: Is anyone else hungry now?
On our way back, we went shopping at Eco-Shop Marketing @ Desaru where they sell everything at RM 2.10. I bought a pack of 6 erasers, a pack of 3 sharpeners and a pack of colour pencils at only $0.70 each!
DAY 2 – Exploring Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark
The theme park opens from 10 am to 6 pm and there is a direct entry point from Hard Rock Hotel. Hard Rock Hotel also provides towels which you can grab before entering the waterpark. As you enter the park, do find a shaded area to place your bags.
The slides are suitable for kiddos and quite safe – the slides are short, and lifeguards are everywhere – at the top of the slide and bottom of the slide. Water level are at an adult’s kneel level. The park and hotel’s pool provide life jackets so that you have save space packing for other things!
We had about five and a half hours of fun time in the park. I will let the photos below do the talking!
I managed to find time to go The Tempest, an adult ride (while the kids are having their lunch). I highly recommend it!! This is how the ride is described in their official website:
Experience two high-energy funnels and a sudden 24-foot drop that allows for high-banking swings. Look out for a 55-foot tube slide with a funnel in the middle which will send you on a swirling vortex before completing the descent to splashdown.
I wish I had more time to try out the rest of the adult rides!
Some tips:
- Bring along sunblock and apply generously
- If possible, moisturiser and aloe vera gel to cool down sunburns
- Water guns would be great for the kiddos
- Want to take pictures? Better bring a handphone pouch that protects and allows you to do so.
We walked back to hotel to bathe and apply thick moisturiser on our skin.
We had our dinner at You Kee Seafood Restaurant
Highlight of the dinner: Lobsters
We went to a small shopping mall before we headed back to the hotel to chill by the pool – on Sundays, when they have 50% off cocktails.
DAY 3 – Heading Home After Some Retail Therapy
Shopping day as we drove for about an hour to AEON Tebrau City for a few hours of shopping. The mall is new, spacious and kids/baby friendly – feeding and baby changing room is available. Shops available include, Toys”R”Us, Poney, Uniqlo, Sephora, Triumph, an arcade and a wide variety of food choices.
Also, AEON supermarket has everything you need to stock up your household supplies before you head back to Singapore. This mall is 30 min drive from Woodlands checkpoint.
If you are not driving, these are the transport charges provided by the hotel:
Thanks for reading and I hope you will also have a fun trip exploring the Desaru area
