PSLE Oral Exams 2021: What To Do This Long Weekend For Primary School?

The PSLE Oral Exams is happening on 12 and 13 August 2021, and that means primary school kids (except P6) will not be heading to school. Here are some ideas to keep the kids entertained!

For parents with kids in Primary 1 to 5, your kids may not be attending school on 12 and 13 August 2021 due to the PSLE Oral Exams. We have compiled a list of events and activities that you may consider to keep the kids purposefully entertained over the long weekend - so head down and start discovering! 

If you don't want to be surprised by another "sneaky" off day, do check out the PSLE 2021 calendar for the rest of the year. Do note that PSLE marking days when primary school kids from P1 to 6 will not be attending school!

In Volume 2: Blast Off, the children are welcomed to school and it is build-a-rocket day! They are on a race against time to find seven rocket parts hidden around the school and to assemble a life-size rocket! The experience starts with the explanation that you are invited to the Tea Party, but the mischievous Chao Ta ate all the food meant for the party! Waka Waka

Located at Annex@Furama, Waka Waka is a Safari-themed indoor playground for kids with a main Safari Play area, a high element obstacle course, a toddlers area and a café too. We suggest this for kids in the lower primary and below, you can read about our visits to get an idea of what to expect. 

So why are we recommending Waka Waka? Because PSLE Oral Exams might be an off-day at school but probably not at work. If your work is mobile, you can work at the café while allowing the kids to play (and leave you alone) - all within the same venue.

One for the older kids, Da Vinci The Exhibition brings you back in time to learn more about one of history's most creative genius, Leonardo da Vinci. The exhibit is highly informative with 10 themed zones for guests to discover da Vinci’s incredibly advanced understanding of science, mathematics, nature, and how these relate to each other. Not just dry information, the exhibition incorporates elements of hand-on exploration to engage with the kids and to make learning fun. The exhibition is recommended for ages 10 and up, but we feel that it is also suitable for younger kids with a keen interest in the Sciences or for kids to gain exposure too.

Superfundae Treasure Hunters

Superfundae is back with a safe-distanced activity in 2021! The Superfundae Treasure Hunters is a photo hunt around the Singapore Sports Hub vicinity. Solve the clues, find the spots, snap your photos and win prizes too! When all is done, you can even head over to the nearby Kallang Wave Mall to take a break too!

Time to put your navigating skills, clue solving, and physical strength to the test! Parent and child pairs who complete the hunt will receive a blind-bag from some of our favourite toy brands! 

SuperPark

SuperPark is usually quite busy on peak days, but we might see a smaller crowd for PSLE Oral Exam off-days. So bring on your stamina, endurance and spirit for fun - time to play and get active with your kids at the park! Alternatively, for the older ones, you can always leave them inside the park for a fun time and grab them after they are done! 

Flight Experience at Aeroviation

Take your first step into the aviation industry with Aeroviation with their flight experience packages! Both packages include a hands-on flying experience in the Cessna 172 simulator where trained instructors will be teaching you how to control the aircraft and complete challenges. The Full Flight Experience includes a 15 min VR experience to learn about different parts of different planes and a 15 min Air Traffic Controller Simulation where test yourself to manage multiple aircraft in the airport with the voice recognition simulator. 

Both packages requires the kids to be at least 7 years old, and will be great for the upcoming PSLE oral school break!

National Library Board's Literary Trails

Venue: West Coast Park, East Coast Park and Ground Floor Plaza of the National Library Building
Date: Till 31 Oct 2021
Admission: Free

Go on a fun-filled reading adventure at Read! Fest 2021’s multi-sensory self-guided literary trails at the West Coast Park, the East Coast Park, and the National Library Building! You start the digital self-guided trail by scanning the QR codes on the uniquely designed art installations at the various venues. 

The main character of the trial, “The Curious Adventure of the Salaryman”, is Gerry a typical Salaryman who requires a change in his life. You need to collect three tokens along the self-guided trails to help Gerry change his outlook on life and face life’s challenges with a positive mindset! Find out more about the Read! Visit A Park

From outdoor playgrounds to nature gardens, Singapore is home to parks of different sizes all over the island! You can probably find one near you to visit, or plan a visit to the popular East Coast Park or West Coast Park! Go Kayaking Around Singapore

 

 

Did you know that most kayak rental venues requires a minimum age of 7 years old, but there is no certificate required to kayak on a sit-on-top kayak. This might be the perfect physical and bonding exercise for parent and child, and you might just discover more about your child over a one-hour kayaking adventure too!

Cycling Around Singapore

If you prefer to keep you feet planted on the ground, how about planning a cycling trip? You can cycle around a particular area, like East Coast Park, Coney Island, Marina Bay, or across venues like from East Coast Park to Changi. Plan your route and make sure you consider yours and your child's cycling ability! Remember, there is no cycling allowed on Expressways too! We suggest looking at possible routes around the Park Connector Network! 

Don't have a bicycle? No worries, there are plenty of bicycle rentals, and here's a list of bicycle rental shops at popular venues around Singapore for your consideration!

Visit Pulau Ubin

For an adventure this school break, why not go "overseas" and visit Pulau Ubin! As a weekday, it will probably be less crowded and this will make the visit more surreal and nostalgic. You can rent a bike on the island to travel between the various spots on the island and with dining-in allowed from 10th Aug, plan to spend the entire day there with a seafood dinner too!

Art Jamming

If staying indoors is your family's thing, you may wish to consider going for an Art Jamming session to unleash your creativity, release stress and create your own masterpiece! It is also a good bonding exercise with a parent / child package too. There are many art studios around the island offering art jamming that you can take your pick from. Bowling Games

How about a bowling game to spur the competitive spirit? Bowling offers a good mix of chilling, competing, bonding and just lots of silly antics. Relive your younger years and bring your little ones to an arcade or gaming center!
