Held over four weekends throughout October, come and celebrate the festivity of Deepavali this year at the Indian Heritage Centre!

Deepavali is just around the corner! And just like what you expect, The Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) is set to host the annual Deepavali Open House from 5 to 27 October 2024. This year’s Open House features a vibrant carnival theme, which invites you to revel in the colourful atmosphere of the Festival of Lights.

Event Highlights 

Deepavali Open House 2024 offers a range of activities for families. Enjoy the favourite Little India Express - Bus Tour to catch the dazzling Deepavali lights in Little India, or try a new experience like Parrot Astrology Fortune Telling for a personalised reading based on ancient India Heritage Institution of customs.

Start the first weekend with the Festive Heritage Market, where you can explore and find unique crafts and festive trinkets from small local businesses. And come savour the rich flavours of Indian cuisine with the MasterChef SG winner, Inderpal Singh, at the Festive Indian Cooking Demo which will take place during the second weekend.

Learn how to make his signature kadai chicken and paneer jalfrezi paired with pistachio biryani, and whip up a special vegetarian spread inspired by the vibrant flavours of the precinct with Flavours of Little India – Immersive Cooking Demo with Chef Sowmiya.

If you are into arts, make sure to engage in the Kalamkari Art Painting Workshop. It is a new activity in the Open House where you can join master practitioner Nidhi to learn the intricate artistry of kalamkari.

More fun activities are coming in the third weekend with the Carnival of Blooms: Deepavali Floral Arrangement Workshop, where you can craft your own floral displays to take home. And for children, the Kids Deepavali Adventure Bootcamp promises an engaging and fun way to learn about the festival’s traditions.

Delve into the stories of Deepavali with the Stories of Deepavali – Traditional Shadow Puppet Visual Installation and explore Little India’s heritage and charm with a flavourful breakfast adventure on the Little India Thosai Walking Trail. 

Leading up to Deepavali on the final weekend, savour a variety of delicious prata while uncovering Little India’s rich heritage with the Little India Prata Walking Trail.

More programmes are happening throughout the Open House! Come spend the weekends in this kid-friendly event. Families are invited to join in the excitement with the all-new Discover Deepavali – Kids Activity Booklet, where children can embark on Deepavali-themed activities to learn more about the festival. 

Other programmes include craft activities, live performances, guided tours of IHC’s permanent galleries, limited-edition Deepavali money packets, and free henna drawings and teatime snacks. Most activities are free, except for the bus tour, workshop, and cooking demo.
