Heritage Activation Node (HAN) @Clementi

The National Heritage Board (NHB)’s latest Heritage Activation Node (HAN) in Clementi aims to celebrate Clementi’s rich history in partnership with Institutes of Higher Learning, the local community, and volunteers from across the island who will develop and present heritage offerings tailored for the neighbourhood. Highlights include a weekend launch festival, a refreshed heritage wall at Clementi Public Library, a new heritage mural at Clementi MRT Station, and more!

Our Clementi Home: HAN@Clementi Launch Festival

To celebrate the launch of HAN@Clementi, a launch festival will be held from 13 to 15 September 2024. It will feature over 25 activities and programmes co-organised with 18 community partners, including skate-through heritage tour Rollin’ Through West Coast Park, My Clementi Heritage Trail commissioned by Heartland Enterprise Centre Singapore, Our Clementi Home heritage village with community activity booths, community music and dance performances, a pasar malam at the Clementi Town Centre, an interactive exploration of Clementi through the JourneyX web app, and more!

Tell Your Clementi Story

Explore and discover the diverse stories that intertwine to form the rich tapestry of Clementi's history. Join us at the memory collection booth and share your fondest memories of Clementi through our storyboard, which delves into narratives that capture the essence of the neighbourhood's journey through time.

This programme is free of charge. No registration is required.

Clementi Creations: Craft Your Clementi Home

Venue: 'Our Clementi Home' Heritage Village at Clementi Town Centre

Time: 2pm to 5pm

Express your creativity by designing your own Clementi home! This craft activity provides a personalised way to showcase the vibrant charm of Clementi, appealing to all ages and offering a fun and artistic exploration of the neighbourhood's unique character.

The craft activity will be done on-site and each participant is limited to one kit. Take-away of materials is not permitted. Upon completing the activity, participants are encouraged to share the stories behind their creations.

Exploring Clementi With Play

Venue: 'Our Clementi Home' Heritage Village at Clementi Town Centre

Step into a world of nostalgia and excitement at this traditional games booth! Unleash your inner child and embark on an adventure as you rediscover the joy of play. Join us in exploring a diverse array of traditional games, where fun and laughter abound. Immerse yourself in this delightful experience, all within the vibrant atmosphere of Clementi.

This programme is free of charge. No registration is required.

Tales of Clementi: Storytelling for Kids

Venue: Clementi Public Library, Programme Zone

In conjunction with the National Library Board's LOLA 2024 celebrations, this 30-min special storytelling session takes you on a journey to uncover Clementi's heritage. Join us to learn about Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, whom Clementi is named after, as well as some of the iconinc landmarks around Clementi!

Love Our Libraries and Archives (LOLA) is an annual event that celebrates reading and learning as a community!

This is a free programme that is open to all. The programme will begin on time.

JourneyX

Venue: Clementi

JourneyX is a web-based digital companion designed to enhance community engagement and foster a greater appreciation of the Clementi neighbourhood. With an interactive community trail interweaved with stories of the people, places and heritage, it offers an immersive and educational experience through compelling narratives and Augmented Reality, presented by Ngee Ann Polytechnic students.

The Web App will be available from 13 September 2024.

Step into the captivating JourneyX Exhibition, an immersive and educational exhibition designed to complement the JourneyX Web App.

Meeting Point: Participants are encouraged to arrive fifteen minutes prior to the start of the programme at the 'Our Clementi Home' Heritage Village at Clementi Town Centre (in front of Info Counter).

Embark on a guided tour with the creators of JourneyX, as they take you on an interactive exploration of Clementi’s sites and landmarks. The tours will be available in English and Mandarin.

What to bring and wear?
Participants are recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes, light clothes suitable for the weather, as well as to bring along a bottle of water, an umbrella and their smartphone/camera with spare batteries/power bank.

Other important notes
The walking tour lasts about 45 minutes. The tour will proceed in the event of wet weather, and all participants are advised to bring an umbrella/raincoat. The walk may, however, be cancelled or altered due to inclement weather (e.g. hazardous haze conditions, flooding) or due to other unforeseen circumstances affecting the tour (e.g. road closures etc.), and participants will be informed.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and must register if so.

From enchanting choral renditions by Clementi Primary School Choir to mesmerising fusion performances by the Indian Instrumental Ensemble and Ilsa Tari, each act promises to immerse you in a cultural odyssey.

Sights and Secrets of Clementi: Photowalk

Explore Clementi through a guided photowalk to uncover the rich everyday heritage and hidden gems of Clementi. Guided by student photographers, we invite you visit and capture the community and natural landmarks of the neighbourhood to gain a newfound appreciation for its community heritage. 

The workshop is part of the “Sights and Secrets of Clementi” photography series organised by SUSS Production Interest Group (PDIG) under the Heritage Activation Node @ Clementi Launch Festival. 

What to bring and wear?

Participants are recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes, light clothes suitable for the weather, as well as to bring along a bottle of water, an umbrella and their smartphone/camera with spare batteries/power bank.

Other important notes

Kindly note that no refund or exchange of tickets is allowed under any circumstance except for programme cancellation.

Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the programme.

The guided walk will proceed in the event of wet weather, and all participants are advised to bring an umbrella/raincoat. The walk may, however, be cancelled or altered due to inclement weather (e.g. hazardous haze conditions, flooding) or due to other unforeseen circumstances affecting the tour (e.g. road closures etc.), and participants will be informed.

Immerse yourself in the rich heritage and flavours of Clementi as SUSS CatalySt takes you on a captivating food tour, where each dish tells a story and every bite is a celebration of Singapore's heritage. Engage in interactive activities, savour carefully curated dishes, and gain insights into the iconic hawker stalls that define the culinary landscape of Clementi. Embark on this immersive and enriching experience that will leave you with a deeper appreciation of Singapore's culinary heritage.

Participants are recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes, light clothes suitable for the weather, as well as to bring along a bottle of water, an umbrella, power bank and personal medication, if necessary. 

Other important notes

No refund or exchange of tickets is allowed under any circumstance except for programme cancellation. 

You are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the programme. The programme will start on time. 

Participants will be invited to consume food along the tour, which are non-vegetarian and may not be halal certified. The dishes may contain nuts, fish, shellfish, alcohol, and other allergens.

Echoes of Clementi: Heritage Mural At Clementi MRT Station

The "Echoes of Clementi" mural celebrates Clementi's diverse multicultural communities while showcasing the area's transformation from a humble kampung into a bustling town. Drawing inspiration from local residents, the mural is a vibrant tapestry of Clementi's iconic landmarks, along with the wildlife and flora that continue to flourish within the neighbourhood. The sepia tones evoke a sense of nostalgia, transporting viewers through history. The scenes guide you on a journey through Clementi's story, highlighting its people and history. Echoes of Clementi will be officially unveiled at Clementi MRT Station at the HAN@Clementi launch ceremony on 13 September 2024. 

The "Echoes of Clementi" mural is an extension of SMRT’s Comic Connect initiative that seeks to collaborate with local artists and schools to create heritage-themed, comic-style murals capturing the unique history and heritage of the locale of 35 SMRT-operated MRT stations island-wide.

Pipeo’s Clementi Adventures: An Interactive Journey: Heritage Wall At Clementi Public Library

After a sudden landing on Earth, Pipeo the pigeon and his feathered friends have been transported back in time to Old Clementi. Luckily Hannie, the local sparrow, is here to help. Together, they will explore significant everyday memories of Clementi from the 1960s to the present, meeting residents along the way. 

Join Hannie to help Pipeo and his friends find their way home on this exciting time-travel adventure game! 

Illustrating a fun, fictional journey through the different eras of Clementi, this heritage wall installation features a two-player interactive with movable character tokens. Players are to spin the numbered wheel to determine how many steps to move, and should spin the wheel again if a tile is already occupied. Landing on special tiles allows the players to take either a fast track forward, or a reverse track backward.  

Complete the game and enjoy the winning present-day photographs from the photography competition “Sights and Secrets of Clementi”!
