Take a walk at two of NHB's Heritage Institutions this Racial Harmony Day and celebrate harmony through movements and journeys.

Put on a different lens to experience a variety of cultural programmes, free drop-in activities and live performances at Let's Walk - Celebrate Harmony at the Cultural Institutions which will give you a deeper understanding of our multicultural roots!

Programmes will be happening at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall & Indian Heritage Centre. Let's take a look at some of the activities that families can expect!

Same Same But Different: A Theatrical Experience for Families

Date: 22 & 23 July 2023, 11am – 1pm
Venue: Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall and Indian Heritage Centre
Admission: $24 per parent-child pair, purchase tickets via PEATIX.

Theatre experience conducted in English and suitable for parents with children aged 5 – 10 years old.

Siti faces constant bullying for the person that she is, and this affected her self-esteem. Yong, her best friend, is determined to help Siti discover how beautifully unique she is.

Same Same But Different is a story about uncovering one’s uniqueness and the power of friendship. Through a journey of self-discovery, Siti and Yong finds out what makes them special and, in the process, cherish their friendship with each other even more.

During this interactive storytelling session, participants will try their hands at various activities including creating their own hand mirror, henna art and other activities. Every parent-child pair will also get to visit two Heritage Institutions within the same day, with a bus ride bringing them from Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall to the Indian Heritage Centre.

Multi-Ethnic Fusion Dance Workshop for Kids

Date: 23 July 2023, 1pm – 3pm and 3.30pm – 5.30pm
Venue: Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall
Admission: $10 per pax; purchase tickets via PEATIX.

Recommended for children aged 7 – 12 years and above. The workshop is conducted in English.

What are some of the commonalities and differences in dance moves across cultures? In this short workshop, children will get to learn and understand some of the cultural meanings behind the dance movements that are unique to the Chinese, Malay and Indian culture. At the end of the workshop, parents are invited to watch their children perform a mini choreographed multi-ethnic fusion dance performance.

Xiao Qing found a letter left behind by her great grandfather. What is this letter about? Inspired by the Connections Across Oceans: Early Chinese Mutual Aid Organisations special exhibition, join Xiao Qing to find out the secrets behind the letter and explore the special exhibition! Children Activity Booklets are available for collection at the Memorial Hall’s Visitor Services counter.
