New Initiative - The People's Association introduces the PA Family PLAYGround

The People's Association (PA) is introducing a new signature event called the “PA Family PLAYGround” and they will be launching the event with a variety of exciting and educational activities for families to enjoy in June and July, across five different sites island wide.

Families can expect fun filled activities like the Family Warrior and NERFamily Challenge. There will also be learning experience through Drone Flying and LEGO Robotics workshops. There will also be fun and interactive experiences such as the STEM Magic Show, storytelling and music and movement. Families can also wind down at the me-time corner and family massage too! 

At the end of the fun day, don't forget to express your gratitude for one another at the Family Pledge Wall too! Note that the activities will differ across different locations.

As we head into the celebrations for National Day in 2024 at the Padang. Families who managed to get tickets to the parade can expect to catch the Red Lions parachute team, a total defence parade and more! But for those who have not, here's how you can also catch up on the action even before 9 Aug 2024! 

Based on our experience in 2023 where the parade was also held at the Padang, the holding area for the marching contingents and mobile column is at North Bridge Road, outside Funan Mall. Families can head down to the road junction out The Arthouse and the Parliament House during rehearsal days to catch the marching contingents and mobile column. 

You may also wish to catch the fireworks as well as ariel displays from different locations, including Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay East, Helix Bridge, etc. If you are planning to do so, do take note of the timings below as well as some tips to catch the NDP2024 fireworks.

New Lifestyle Venue - New Bahru Opens

New Bahru is Singapore’s first creative cluster located at the previous site of Nan Chiau High School. It offers families a lifestyle venue with F&B, retail and play options across more than 50 local businesses. 

While it is slated to officially open in September, a number of businesses are already operating, including Kiztopia Prestige, Artichoke, The Coconut Club, Curious Creatures and more. Kidztropic Cove is a new vibrant community space for families, offering a safe and welcoming environment where parents and children can play, learn, and bond. It actually take over the space that was previously Waka Waka's toddler's corner (note that it is a separate admission)

The new playground caters to kids between 0 to 6 years old and offers a mix of structured and unstructured activities that promote learning through exploration, creativity, and imaginative play. Families can expect Montessori wooden toys, plenty of pretend play, calm corners for reading, and most importantly, spaces for parents to sit and relax as well.

If you are families with Kidztropic Poiz, this outlet offers a different concept to give parents varied play options and package holders can use their package at both outlets too!

Houbii Spot Reopens with Expanded Offerings

Occupying a 20,000 sqft premise in Marina Square, VroomTown Driving City is a mega indoor drive-play academy and playground featuring multiple Singapore icons including the Merlion, Gardens by the Bay and Changi Airport! The realistic city driving experience also includes traffic lights & rules, a large indoor playground and a drive-through for kids!

Driving around VroomTown, you will get to explore iconic places of interest and interact with different driving experiences such as VroomPump, VroomWash and the Vroom Drive-through Cafe. 

Ubi Grove Playground with Larger-than-Life Vehicle Play Structures for Pretend Play

We are slightly late in the game for this one, the playground is not really new as it opened much earlier this year. But better late than never! 

Nestled within the Ubi Grove estate, the expansive playground draws inspiration from the nearby driving school, featuring four distinct vehicle-themed play areas - there is something exciting in store for children of all ages! 

Right beside DT27 Ubi MRT station lies the vibrant new Ubi Grove estate, which has a wide variety of play areas catered for all children. From the larger-than-life-sized Monster Car, to the cute little driving circuit with zebra crossings and traffic cones, it’s time to lace up those sneakers and get ready for hours of fun here! 

New Fruits and Plantation-themed Outdoor Playgrounds at Plantation Grange, Tengah

On the other hand, these are really quite fresh off the oven as we discover colourful fruit and plantation themed playgrounds in the new town of Tengah! These thematic playgrounds are inspired by fruit trees that lined the roadside and fruit farms that occupied the estate in the past. The children can become King and Queens of tropical fruits at this new playgrounds!

Located at the Plantation Grange HDB estate, we found 7 playgrounds for both 6 to 12 years old, and toddlers between 2 to 5 years old. From climbing durian structures to exploring treehouses, children will have lots of fun running, climbing, sliding, swinging and more! There's even 2 Pineapple-shaped climbing structures where children can climb into and conquer - one for the younger ones and the other the adventurous ones! 

The playgrounds are relatively close to each other within the same HDB estate. So do take some time to explore these new playgrounds! 

New Bug and Nature-themed Outdoor Playgrounds at Plantation Acres, Tengah

Nope, we did not repeat the listings! Located just across the road at the Plantation Acres HDB estate, are another 5 bug and nature-themed playgrounds for more family fun times outdoors! Looks like families moving into the new Tengah estate will have lots of opportunities for play! 

There is no end of play time with tall climbing structures with curvy slides and shorter play options with sensory and experience boards for young ones too! You won't have to go far to discover all these fun playgrounds - and you already know there are more just across the road at Plantation Grange!

National Library Board's Be S.U.R.E. Together: Gen AI and Deepfakes Edition

The National Library Board (NLB) is rolling out its most extensive S.U.R.E. community outreach spanning five weekends from 15 June to 20 October 2024 at community hubs across Singapore. Be S.U.R.E. Together: Gen AI and Deepfakes Edition will provide rich opportunities for all to learn more together about leveraging Generative AI (Gen AI) for public good, while safeguarding themselves and their loved ones against online threats such as deepfakes and scams.

The festival features free hands-on activities and educational resources on information literacy that are co-created by NLB and its community partners. Among the highlights are interactive quizzes that the public can take to see how well they fare in discerning Gen AI content, along with audio-visual resources on Gen AI and deepfakes to build up information literacy skills. There will also be live demos and talks on Gen AI tools and digital inclusion by local tech companies, and workshops by NLB’s new SURE Learning Community.

The festival will be held at five community hubs along with roving exhibits at more than 15 public libraries across Singapore from now till end-October 2024.

The Causeway: A Century of Connections

In celebration of the Causeway’s centennial anniversary, the National Heritage Board (NHB) has launched a new travelling exhibition, The Causeway: A Century of Connections to commemorate the Causeway’s significance as part of the heritage of both nations, and its role in the lives of Singaporeans and Malaysians.

The exhibition begins its run on 28 June 2024 at Woodlands Civic Centre, and will subsequently travel to the National Archives of Singapore building at Canning Rise to coincide with a public talk on the Causeway in September 2024. Following this, it will tour institutes of higher learning, public libraries, and other public spaces.

Get ready to breathe, stretch and Glow as Glow Festival returns for its third installation this year! Anchor event of the Singapore Tourism Board’s Wellness Festival Singapore, Glow Festival will be held at Marina Bay Sands’ Event Plaza and Rain Oculus from 6 to 21 July 2024, with over 70 fitness and wellness workshops across six wellness zones! 

Glow Festival by Prudential will feature a myriad of celebrity instructors, including Akin Akman, co-founder of AARMY, and Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts, an internationally acclaimed Peloton yoga teacher. They will be offering their signature classes across 16 days of fun and fitness, suitable for people across all walks of life. 

Tickets are available now at an early bird price of S$29, each ticket will allow participants access to one class at the Main Studio and exclusive access to Recovery Space, alongside complimentary drink from AYA, exclusive merchandise from Prudential, Guardian, ishopChangi, and a slew of discount vouchers for use at the Wellness Bazaar. Those who purchase the VIP ticket will also receive the limited edition Glow Festival x lululemon T-shirt.

Singapore’s first Pickleball and Badminton Festival

Play! Pickle is thrilled to host the first-ever Pickleball and Badminton Festival on July 6! 

The Festival will introduce beginners and enthusiasts to both sports under the supervision of professional coaches, in a friendly and inclusive environment. Players from age 5 (to any age!) are invited to grab a pickleball paddle or a badminton racket, play alongside our coaches, and learn tips and tricks to enhance their skills. It's also a great opportunity to engage with fellow racket sports aficionados in a lively, entertaining atmosphere.

Everyone is welcome to join -  from seasoned players and to those just starting out, and anyone curious about these popular racket sports. At the indoor courts, the play goes on rain or shine.

Mark your calendars for the return of CQ Furkids Fiesta from 6 - 7 July! Expect a fun-filled weekend of activities, contests and giveaways at CQ’s Fountain Square from 1-9pm on both 6 and 7 July. 

Look forward to a rescue dog runway and adoption drive led by creative director and television personality, David Boey. For those up for a challenge, put your furkid through a test of discipline at the Temptation Trail and at the SlowFeeding munch off! There's also the Tic Tac Paw for you to win a small prize too! 

Watch your pet strut their stuff against the backdrop of CQ’s iconic, illuminated angel canopies at sundown, and receive a photo when you pay as you wish! Proceeds will be donated to various Animal Welfare Groups supported by Hope for Animals.

Be dazzled by the shimmers and soundscape of Aotearoa New Zealander contemporary artist Lisa Reihana’s GLISTEN, a striking kinetic large-scale outdoor installation, adorned with patterns inspired by the rich traditions of Southeast Asian Songket and Māori Tāniko weaving. 

GLISTEN presents a vibrant tapestry with intricate patterns that pay homage to the traditions and craft of Indigenous women weavers from Māori and Southeast Asian cultures, with the intertwining of art and nature. The three-sided sculpture reacts and responds playfully to its surrounding natural environment.

With over 114,000 shimmer discs beautifully reflecting light, and with the accompanying soundscape of a wind chime, GLISTEN orchestrates a multi-sensory encounter with the artwork.

Embark on an adventure with the three little pigs as they cleverly outwit the Big Bad Wolf. An original adaptation of the classic fairy tale, The Three Little Pigs teaches the little ones how success can be achieved through hard work and perseverance. 

Designed for 3-year-olds and above, this ‘very curly musical tail’ is packed with humour and will have you squealing with glee and howling with laughter as the three little pigs take on the Big Bad Wolf.

With ship threats and pollution encroaching on their home, Phinny and Wally discover that unity and friendship are their greatest allies. Together, their unbreakable bond reminds us that true friends never leave each other behind, no matter the tide.
