Signature Peranakan Dishes from One MICHELIN-Starred Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery
Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery has been awarded one MICHELIN Star for two consecutive years since the first edition of the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur and Penang in 2023.
Auntie Gaik Lean will bring three new signature Peranakan dishes namely the Sambal Udang that brings the tangy and spicy notes of thick prawn curry to the fore with morsels of meaty prawns. Cincaru Rempah features freshly delivered cincaru (hard tailed scad) stuffed with turmeric and lemongrass sambal before being sautéed to succulent perfection. Kerabu Bee Hoon with Tiger Prawn brings vibrant Nyonya flavours with a rice vermicelli salad prepared with fresh tiger prawn, kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, shallots, mint leaves, kerisik, and sambal belacan, finished with a squeeze of fresh calamansi juice.
Her selection of signature Peranakan dishes will also make a comeback to Peppermint!Â
Chef Leon Yee’s Age-Old Recipes
Chef Leon has been profoundly influenced by his mother and Peranakan grandmother since a young age.Â
Be transported back in time with Ayam Buah Keluak (Chicken with fermented pangium edule seeds), Itek Sio (Braised duck leg with tamarind and coriander), Black Angus Beef Belly Pongteh (Angus beef belly, stewed with fermented soy bean paste), and the signature Lemak Blue Pea Flower Rice, served with Spicy Coconut Floss, and more! Seafood additions this year include Giant Stingray Kuah Lada where tart turmeric and peppercorn gravy highlights the delicate flavours and texture of stingray. For those seeking a fiery kick, the Rock Lobster with Charred Chilli Chuka offers a garlicky, gingery, and tart spicy chili condiment. Don’t miss the accompanying appetisers available on daily rotation, like Ngoh Hiang with White Timun Achar, traditionally Nyonya meat rolls spiced with white cucumber preserves, and Gado Gado, a vegetable salad of local shoots and sprouts doused in peanut sauce.
Free-Flow Durians on Fri and Sat Evenings
This year, ‘Savour the Straits Peranakan Buffet’ also brings the taste of the King of Fruits, durian, available on Friday and Saturday evenings at Peppermint’s Urban Farm.
