Themed "Blossom of Colours", the PassionArts Festival continues to co-create with the community, transforming heARTlands into a mesmerising tapestry of art and culture in diverse hues and forms. Blooming across Singapore, PAssionArts Festival 2023 offers 60 Art Villages, each with an immersive array of art experiences!
Co-Creating and Collaboration with the Community
PAssionArts Festival 2023 continues to collaborate with community partners such as schools, Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), and various community and interest groups to enhance the neighbourhood’s vibrancy and youthfulness while strengthening community cohesion and engagement.
Since June, PAssionArts network of 89 Community Arts & Culture Clubs (CACCs) has been organising some 31 exciting pre-festival programmes across the island, engaging 2,700 residents, 200 artists and arts group in art creation. These programmes promote a sense of shared experience and showcase a diverse variety of artistic expressions.
Highlighted Experiences
On Sunday, 2 July 2023, Cheng San-Seletar CACC will kick off the PAssionArts Festival with its Art Village, a celebration of vibrant artworks co-created with its residents. One of the highlights is the Buttons UP art display consisting of individual works that deftly incorporate buttons of varying sizes and colours, blossoming with creativity. Another highlight is the creative use of recyclable materials such as paper towel core car and plastic bottle bunny bank to create art pieces that embodied the community’s sustainability efforts.
Art, technology, and community spirit converge at Bukit Batok East CACC’s Art Village, scheduled to take place on Saturday, 22 July. One of the fascinating attractions is the Tape Art Installation. Measuring an impressive 6.6 feet by 20 feet (2m by 6m), this canvas art installation is adorned with a radiant spectrum of colourful duct tape, skilfully intertwining with a mosaic of memories. Co-created by residents, volunteers and a local community artist, this Tape Art Installation captures the treasured memories of yesteryear which today blossoms into a vibrant tapestry of colours for all to enjoy. The Tape Art Installation is set to break a new record in the Singapore Book of Records for the largest tape art.
Kebun Baru Community Arts & Culture Club (CACC) is organising a Merlion Art Installation Workshop (16 & 30 Jul) and Plastic Flowers Arts Workshop (30 Jul). Residents are invited to co-create artworks that will be displayed outside Mayflower Market during Kebun Baru CACC’s Art Village and National Day Observance on 9 Aug.
Tampines North CACC’s Festival Village will blossom with lively colours and creative energy on Saturday, 26 August. Its residents’ ingenious repurposing of plastic bottles has given rise to stunning tree art installations illuminated by attractive LED lights. These tree installations will revel residents and visitors alike with their splendour of artistic expression. Complementing the tree installations, art booths by students from Temasek Polytechnic will enrich the festival experience, offering a diverse range of creative displays. This communal effort represents the shared commitment to celebrating art and community cohesion, encapsulating the essence of the PAssionArts Festival.
Held in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, the Aljunied GRC PAssionArts Festival will take place on 23 September 2023 at Kovan Hub. It will feature a display of 5 sustainable art installations co-created by the residents and a series of art activities and performances.
Prior to this on 13 August 2023, residents in the Serangoon and Kaki Bukit area will be able to participate in the co-creation of 2 of the art installations as part of the pre-festival engagement workshops where they will decorate recyclable materials to complete the art installation, which will be on display on 23 Sep during the Aljunied GRC PAssionArts Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.
As part of PAssionArts Festival 2023, Whampoa Community Arts & Culture Club (CACC) is organising a Dragon of Nostalgia Workshop on Sunday, 17 Sep. Residents will be able to adorn the surface of the cardboard dragon playground sculpture with felt flowers. The completed Dragon Playground sculpture, standing 1.4m x 1.8m, will be displayed at the Whampoa PAssionArts Festival on 30 September, near Boon Keng MRT Station Exit B.
