Singapore Sports Hub marks its fifth anniversary with a month-long slate of virtual activities for the community!
Officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 26 July 2015, the Singapore Sports Hub will be celebrating its fifth anniversary in July with a month-long virtual celebration that will culminate with the National Day Fiesta on 9 August.
While it may still be some time before crowds can fully return, the Singapore Sports Hub is hoping to draw the community in with engaging content on their site.
“The last five years marked many national milestones for the Singapore Sports Hub. While we look forward to welcoming everyone back, we are committed to support and keep the community engaged virtually in the meantime.”
“Through the fifth anniversary and National Day celebrations, we hope to uplift spirits and galvanize the community to journey onwards and stronger together with us in the new normal,” said Lionel Yeo, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Sports Hub, on July 21, in a statement.
An interactive map of the Singapore Sports Hub will feature activities and content pieces for you to learn, play and be entertained from the safety and comfort of your home. The map will be live on Saturday, 25 July 2020.
Here’s a look at what else you can expect.
1. Speed Racer
Speed Racer, an interactive running game, features a virtual track based on the iconic 100PLUS Promenade with several obstacles – including other runners and even otters, along the way.
2. Shoot Your Best
Shoot Your Best allows you to virtually explore the Sports, Arts and Heritage Trail to learn about the rich history of the Kallang area and seek out the Merdeka Lions, as well as the uniquely designed repurposed benches made from timber seats of the Old National Stadium. You can also uncover picturesque spots around the hub to capture the perfect Instagram shot on your next visit.
3. Video Ga-Ga
You can join in Singapore and Sports Hub’s birthday celebrations on Instagram by making use of an exclusive series of birthday-themed Instagram filters, and tagging @SGSportsHub in your creative Instagram stories!
The celebrations will culminate with the first-ever virtual National Day Fiesta at 1 pm on 9 Aug 2020, Sunday. Hosted by Michelle Chong’s Ah Lian, the 55-minute show will allow audiences to connect, dance and play together while celebrating the nation’s birthday in the safety of their homes.
You can also join the #PlankThatSong challenge; those who submit their videos by 31 July will have the opportunity to have their videos featured during the event. Interested participants can post their plank videos on their personal Instagram accounts, tag @SGSportsHub and #PlankThatSong.
