Located at Changi Village, Chock Full Of Beans offers a chill place to hang out, good food AND coffee with 2D/3D latte art!
Venue: 4 Changi Village Rd, #01-2090, Singapore 500004
Opening Hours: 12 pm - 8.30 pm (Tue - Thu), 12 pm - 10 pm (Fri), 9.30 am - 10 pm (Sat), 9.30 am - 8.30 pm (Sun)
Hidden in the east of Singapore, Chock Full Of Beans is a small quaint café that doesn't raise eyebrows from it's exterior. However, you will spot a long queue for it's weekend brunch and dinner - and if you look closer, you will see many people taking photos of their coffee too! More specifically, photos of the creative 2D and 3D latte art on their coffee.
We visited Chock Full Of Beans during our stay at the Civil Service Club (CSC) @ Changi I Family Suite and recommend families to visit at least once for the latte art or if you are visiting the many family-family things to do at Changi Village.
Personalised 3D and 2D Latte Art
The latte art is available as part of selected drinks, so you just have to choose the right drink and request for it. Do note that the 3D art is only available on iced lattes and may take up to 30mins to complete.
Each art is handmade by the talented barista, Tong, and in case you think he is just replicating his creation - you can actually request for specific characters on your coffee! And in case he is unable to do it, he will just let you know.
We requested for a 3D Pikachu (he mentioned he can do Snorlex and Jigglypuff too) on the Iced Earl Grey Latter ($8) and a 2D Princess on the Large Hazelnut Latter ($7). The creations were just too cute to be drank, or at least until after photos were taken! Unfortunately, the art can only be created on the lattes, so the kids can only see but not taste the creations.
Chill Weekend Brunch Venue
Not just the latte art, families should also consider visiting the café for it's weekend brunch offering from 9.30 am to 5 pm. It offers a nice quiet place to chill after visiting the nearby Changi Beach or as you return from Pulau Ubin. You may be please to also note that the pricing is nett, with no GST or service charge chargeable.
We visited on a weekend morning and had the Mushroom Soup with Bread Slices, Bacon & Cheese Croquette Platter, Chock Full of Big Breakfast and Ultimate Swiss Rosti - all recommended by the barista.
While the kids did not enjoy the Mushroom Soup with Bread Slices ($7), we did. It is the kind made freshly from mushroom while the kids were used to the canned kind - which is great for us as we finished it between myself and my wife.
The Bacon & Cheese Croquette Platter ($15) is served with fries. The croquettes are handmade and tasty from the mix of bacon and cheese.
Chock Full of Big Breakfast ($21) is the standard big breakfast on brunch menus, it includes a chicken cheese sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, salad, tomato, baked beans and a toast.
We recommend having the Ultimate Swiss Rosti ($21) served with mushrooms, chicken cheese sausage and scrambled eggs. This is available on Sat, Sun and Public Holidays only.
Final Thoughts
Chock Full Of Beans is definitely a place to visit, the place is chill, the food is good and the latte art is a plus! The only minus for us, is that it is a little out of the way but if they come up with a way to create 3D art on the ice chocolate*, we will be down in a jiffy!
*It is not possible now, we asked and also heard the table next to us ask as well.
